Finnish Pavilion at Venice Glass Week 2026

Milan, 9.9.2026

Finnish glass artist Sini Majuri and designer Jouni Leino bring Lähde: Finnish Pavilion of Art and Design to Venice, confronting what happens to material knowledge and meaning when production becomes faster, cheaper and increasingly disposable. Project is presented at The Venice Glass Week HUB, Berengo Studio’s Spazio B during 12-20 September 2026, and across a wider programme of events.

LÄHDE is the Finnish word for a water source, an origin; and a command: go. The project looks back to inherited knowledge while refusing to leave it in the past. Its central work, a sculptural table combining hand-formed Finnish glass and solid oak, brings traditional material expertise into a contemporary dialogue with sound, moving image, jewellery and technology. “We are drowning in stuff and starving for meaning,” says Sini Majuri, a Finnish glass artist featured on the front page of The New York Times. Furniture designer Jouni Leino, whose work has been seen at MoMA, adds: “Craftsmanship and design are knowledge, continuity and a way of understanding the world.”

The project brings together composer Ilmari Mäenpää, moving-image artist Janne Hirvonen, Genelec sound technology, kinetic glass jewellery by THE AND, Pauliina Ahonen and Salla Räsänen and visual identity by Tatu Ahonen / Ahooy Creative. On September 14, LÄHDE hosts international line-up of leading voices in glass, contemporary culture, collecting and creative strategy at Hotel Saturnia & International. The discussion features Brandi Clark, a judge on Netflix’s Blown Away and CEO of the Glass Art Society; international curator and My Helsinki ambassador Rylé Tuvierra, whose audience exceeds half a million followers on Instagram; design and collecting expert Charlotta Vilamo; and creative strategist Tatu Ahonen. Together, they will examine mass production, disappearing craftsmanship, collectible design and the shrinking middle ground between disposable objects and luxury collectibles.
